Why DVD?
- DVD has replaced VHS as the standard format for viewing movies at home and in the workplace.
- With proper care and storage, DVD discs are largely insusceptible to deteriorate over time, no matter how many times you watch them. DVD's may last for hundreds of years. VHS tapes, on the other hand, deteriorate with each use, and noticeably deteriorate after many years even if you do not watch them.
- DVD video and audio are superior to VHS. DVD video provides users with video that is twice as clear as VHS. DVD ("standard def") is capable of showing up to 500 horizontal lines of resolution while VHS is limited to 240. Blu-Ray DVD ("hi def") is capable of showing up to 1080 horizontal lines of resolution.
- At maximum resolution, one DVD can store 90 minutes of video with audio; at medium resolution, 120 minutes; at minimum resolution, 150 minutes.
- DVD eliminates the need to fast forward and rewind to your favorite moments. Using customized chapter marks, you can skip to a particular chapter that is, for example, 45 minutes into the video in a second's time.
